Designed and enhanced key features for a point-of-sale system used across European restaurants. My work focused on improving the UX and UI of several core sections within a legacy POS platform for Windows.
Design tasks which I had and completed:
Analyzed legacy POS workflows to identify usability issues and areas for modernization
Redesigned UX and UI for key sections, including Financial Overview, New Customer Creation, Order Overview, and Driver Assignment flows
Simplified complex financial data presentation for easier day-to-day use by restaurant staff
Improved the new business customer onboarding process for faster, error-free data entry at busy service times
Streamlined the order management interface for clearer status tracking and faster updates
Developed an alternative icon pack to enhance clarity and consistency
Collaborated closely with developers to ensure smooth implementation and alignment with legacy architecture

Project note from Ilya
This was my first experience designing for a POS system oriented on touchscreen. And it turned out to be one of the most insightful projects I’ve worked on. It gave me the chance to explore the European restaurant market in detail and understand the hidden logic behind daily operations - from financial tracking to delivery logistics.

Dashboard redesign

A significant part of this project was redesigning the POS dashboard to help restaurant staff and managers quickly see key financial metrics. The original interface buried crucial data under cluttered layouts, making it hard to track performance during daily operations. In my redesign, I prioritized clear financial overviews, highlighting essential figures like daily revenue, open checks, payment methods, and outstanding balances.
I refined the layout to ensure important numbers stand out at a glance, enabling staff to make faster, data-driven decisions and maintain financial control even in busy service periods.

Shop updates

I also redesigned the “New Customer Creation” flow, simplifying data entry and reducing errors during busy service times. Additionally, I revamped the ingredient settings interface in the shop section of the POS, improving navigation and making it easier for staff to manage inventory and recipe components efficiently.

Order list redesign

I redesigned the Order List, improving its visual hierarchy and adding new data fields to make it easier for staff to quickly assess order details. Additionally, I designed the export and printing flow, ensuring seamless transitions between digital and physical records for restaurant operations.

Delivery redesign

Designed from scratch the Driver Assignment section, creating a clear, efficient interface for linking drivers to orders where delivery is required. With ability to create and edit order queues. The flow ensures smooth handoffs and helps staff manage deliveries without delays or errors.

Key results
My designs were implemented across many POS systems in European restaurants, improving speed, accuracy, and usability in daily operations. Key updates to financial views, order management, driver assignment, and customer onboarding reduced errors and enhanced efficiency, helping the platform deliver greater value to restaurant businesses.
